Ft. Campbell visit

A few weeks ago WKU President Gary Ransdell and Psychology faculty member Betsy Schoenfelt visited the Hilltopper ROTC group as they were training with other cadets from Murray State & Austin Peay universities at Ft. Campbell. We got to see first-hand the training regiment that the students contend with. Needless to say, it was impressive.

Spread the Red Education Game

The Lady Toppers played an unusual 11:30am weekday game yesterday against South Alabama. The catch? The bulk of the 7900 fans that filled Diddle Arena were under 5-foot tall and 9-years-old. In a unique arrangement with both the BG City Schools and Warren County Schools, all of the 1-5th grade students attended to cheer on the Toppers and Spread the Red for Education and learn about all the aspects of putting on and keeping up with basketball games.

McChesney Field Campus Tour

Dr. Steve Spencer’s Recreation Resource Management class showed off their semester of work at WKU’s new McChesney Field Campus yesterday. The farm was donated to the university last year and several classes have researched, improved and documented the homestead. Spencer’s class focused on cutting trails, signage and making the field campus accessible and ready for future use.

We walked several miles on the new trails and observed several historical markers and ongoing projects. The field campus is a great benefit for WKU!

At the afternoon quarterly meeting, the BOR unanimously voted to name the building in honor of President Gary Ransdell. Full Story.

Preston Solar

Installing the solar collectors on top of the Preston Center

The Preston Center added a solar water heater system a couple of weeks ago, and I was fortunate enough to be on hand during installation. The system is comprised of 77 rubber panels that collect sunlight to warm the water within. Pretty neat!
