Hilltopper Hysteria
Alright WKU Basketball fans out there. It’s almost that time of year. Friday October 16 kicked off WKU’s basketball season for both men and women. Hilltopper Hysteria brought in a large crowd into Diddle arena to see the introduction of both the mens and women’s teams and to view a short scrimmage with both teams. Here are some photos from that night. Enjoy all.

Parents Weekend/UCA Game
The Hilltoppers looked to change their loosing ways this past weekend, on Parents Weekend for that matter, against the University of Central Arkansas. Just so you all know it poured all afternoon before the game. This, sadly, kept quite a few fans away from the game and stopped most of the tailgating. Never the less the game was still on. Thankfully the rain held off just long enough to get the game in. However the Hilltoppers were unable to come away with a win. For more on the game and other Western info head to The College Heights Herald. Hope you all enjoy the images.
Football Home Opener
Hello blogger world. It has been a while since you have heard from me but believe me I have been busy. We have been busy the past few weeks as Western’s campus transformed from a dead summer campus to a packed, fall campus. Last weekend Western hosted its first Football Bowl Subdivision game as the Hilltoppers took on the Bulls of South Florida. Sadly the Hilltoppers came up short in the end. However the game was hard fought and Western’s football team showed some promise for the season. Another highlight was the attendance reached to the second highest number in school history. Below are a selection from the first official Football Bowl Subdivision game as a member of the Sun Belt Conference. Enjoy.

Behind the Scenes
For those that frequent this photo blog you will know that Clinton and I had a great time shooting the Football (Sports Illustrated inspired) cover photos two weeks ago. Just for the record being out in the 90+ degree heat all morning and afternoon was so worth it after seeing the prints when we got back to the office. I hope you all enjoy this look at what it takes to get a great portrait.

National Geographic Comes to Western
This past Thursday while Clinton was finishing up the Football cover shoot (which looks awesome), I had the opportunity to go over to the biology department and hang out with a film crew from National Geographic. They were on campus getting some footage for a feature they are running on Dr. Steve Huskey, assistant professor in the biology dept. He received a grant from nat. geo. to fund his research on grouper fish. These large fish are now protected along the Florida coast but little is known about the anatomy of these gigantic aquatic creatures. For more of the story go to Westerns News Blog, but for now I hope you stay and enjoy a selection of images from that event. (Oh and did I mention his extensive skeletal collection of animals…)

SCATS Camp
For the past two weeks Western has hosted a camp for gifted middles school students. These students traveled from around Kentucky to participate in a two week camp consisting of various classes that ranged from math to acting. For this past week I have been able to photograph just a few of these classes. First was the Ceramics class, then Jump Into Health, Acting, Natural Disasters, and finally Musical Troupe. The Health and Natural Disasters class were more of your formal classes while the Ceramics, Acting and Musical Troupe consisted of non traditional “hands on” learning. I hope you get a feeling for what this camp was like for these young adults.
Playing in the Rain
To bring the crazy week we had at the office here to a conclusion I was shooting an event when Warren County was placed under a tornado warning. I don’t know how familiar you all are with the Bowling Green area but I was out a Basil Griffin Park off of Three Springs Rd. Down by I-65 shooting the Southern Kentucky Community Band at an outdoor amphitheater. Ya that right. Outside, during a tornado warning. So of course me being the weird photographer I am got really excited because the sky was (how do i put this) overpowering in color, shape, and movement. While everyone began piling in to their cars I just had to take a few frames before the heavens opened up as they say. Thankfully the event was stopped in time for all to get out of the park before the brunt of the storm hit. As far as we know the tornado was spotted East of town and hopefully there was little to no damage to the area if it did touch down. The following images are from the wonderful weather we have here in Bowling Green and a Clarinet Master Class camp that Dr. Cipolla taught all week, and to culminate their week they were able to play with the Community Band on Thursday Night. Enjoy.

Stand for Children Day
OK we are back on chronological track with this post. I tried to get this post up yesterday for you all but that was not the case. So Yesterday, Wednesday, was Stand for Children’s Day here on Campus. I have never seen south lawn more filled with kids then i did yesterday. From what I could tell they were from all over Bowling Green either here with a day care, day camp, or summer camp. These kids were having so much fun i began to envy their zealous play. But that is why I love Photography, I am able to freeze that emotion filled, childlike joy in time and share it with others (that’s you in this case). So I hope that you enjoy these images from the morning festivities. They don’t quite do the event justice but I hope it comes close.

Gear Up
This post should have come prior to the Rosenbaum post but I just decided to mix things up a bit. Last Thursday and Friday Western hosted approximately 60 high school sophomores from around the Kentucky and Tennessee area. This leadership conference prepares those involved for a more challenging high school experience while preparing them for college. During this conference the 60 + kids stayed in the dorms for one night and on Friday had the chance to go to 4 classes to give them a taste of what college classes are like. The following is a glimpse in to those two days.

Michael Rosenbaum
This past Saturday I had the chance to go document a talk by WKU Alum Michael Rosenbaum for an Alumni conference. The seats of the auditorium was filled with around 50 or so WKU alumni on visit for a weekend back on campus and around Bowling Green. Prior to the talk I was able to meet Mr. Rosenbaum where our conversation centered around trying to guess how many alum in the audience would even know who he was. He was a great guy and I am glad I got to meet him. Enjoy the photos.
