M.A.S.T.E.R. Plan
The incoming class of 2013 rolled into town over the weekend with the arrival of freshmen in the M.A.S.T.E.R. Plan program that helps with the high school to college transition. The benefit to the students is they live on campus a week early and have numerous activities and events to get acclimated to the Hill and all areas of campus. Sunday night ended with a huge pep rally and convocation speech with President Ransdell at the Fine Arts Center ampitheatre.

View of campus from PFT
Last week Bryan and I took on the largest panorama image yet with our GigaPan… we trekked to the top of Pearce-Ford Tower and set up outside the window (with supervision and permission of course) on the 27th floor looking North to the top of the Hill. From this vantage point, you truly get where the term “Hilltoppers” comes from. In all, we captured 420 images that produced a 1.22 gigapixel (1280 megapixel) photo that offers an incredibly detailed look at campus. You can see all 3 water towers on Bowling Green, including the one at I-65 and Lovers Lane. Total computer processing time? 13 hours and 15 minutes on a new 8-core MacPro. Yeowza!

Behind the Scenes
For those that frequent this photo blog you will know that Clinton and I had a great time shooting the Football (Sports Illustrated inspired) cover photos two weeks ago. Just for the record being out in the 90+ degree heat all morning and afternoon was so worth it after seeing the prints when we got back to the office. I hope you all enjoy this look at what it takes to get a great portrait.

National Geographic Comes to Western
This past Thursday while Clinton was finishing up the Football cover shoot (which looks awesome), I had the opportunity to go over to the biology department and hang out with a film crew from National Geographic. They were on campus getting some footage for a feature they are running on Dr. Steve Huskey, assistant professor in the biology dept. He received a grant from nat. geo. to fund his research on grouper fish. These large fish are now protected along the Florida coast but little is known about the anatomy of these gigantic aquatic creatures. For more of the story go to Westerns News Blog, but for now I hope you stay and enjoy a selection of images from that event. (Oh and did I mention his extensive skeletal collection of animals…)

WKU Football
In preparation for the 2009 football season, Bryan & I spent Wednesday and Thursday last week photographing a handful of the senior players for the gameday program covers. It was unbearably hot and humid but we came away with some killer images. All the players were great to work with and were up for anything we threw at them (literally). Good luck this season, guys! Here are my B&W versions.
